*Best Possible Self* journaling is a positive psychology exercise where you imagine a future where everything in your life has gone as well as possible – you’ve worked hard and achieved your dreams. You then write in detail about this ideal future self and life. For example, you might write about your thriving career, health, relationships, and how you feel in that future. This visualization in writing has been shown to increase optimism and happiness. It works by clarifying your goals and energizing your motivation – you start to see a concrete, compelling vision of what you want, which can inspire action. Many people feel a mood boost and more direction after writing their Best Possible Self. It’s essentially a way to train your brain to focus on hopeful outcomes instead of dwelling on negatives.
